The Future of Fish Pond Water Features in Space Colonies Considered

It is widely known that Omega 3 is very important to the human diet, and it hardly matters which race we are talking about. Fish oil is a key component for maintaining strong human health – studies and research have long confirmed all this. Thus, for our space colonies to survive they will need fish oils, and just as they will need to grow their own food, they too will need to have fish ponds to grow schools of fish to eat as well. Now then, let’s discuss all this. What will these fish eat in our fishpond? Is having a fishpond a viable concept for a space colony? What sorts of water features can be incorporated with these fish pond for ambiance?First, it might be very difficult if there is not water which is readily available on the planet, and depending on whether there is water available in large abundance, and depending how well the fish do in their new environment, there may be small tanks, or large water features incorporated into the architectural layout of the space colony.Maybe the fish can grow well in the water already present, perhaps the fish will grow better in a space pond with the perfectly controlled environment, with everything exactly right, and treating the entire fish farm as a scientific research project, that is one possibility. After all we should be able to aerate the water, and grow plant species that the fish will like to eat within the fish tank or fishpond.Consider if you will people who have Koia Ponds inside their home, and how many people have aquariums. We know all this is possible, so it’s only a matter of scaling it up, and stocking the pond with fast-growing fish with the most nutrients. Perhaps we can find fish which like to eat the waste from other plant species which we use to grow our fruits and vegetables. Remember, in a space colony it is important to recycle everything. There may be many other functions the fish can help us with, besides just providing us food.Of course there needs to be at least one space colony member who has experience with these sorts of things, and they must keep the cycle going, the fish reproducing, and make sure they are fed appropriately, so that they are healthy and don’t cause other problems for the humans who will be eating them. Luckily, there are folks; researchers and scientists already working on these things at NASA’s Astrobiological Division out in California. Some of the research papers, ideas, and comments as well as the lectures, symposiums, and theories behind it all are quite fascinating.Indeed, I hope you will please consider the future of fish ponds, and water features in future space colonies.
