The Basics of Non-Profit Accounting Software

The introduction of computer technology in the late 1900′s contributed greatly to industry operations. Publishers found a quicker way to print books, journals, and newspapers. Manufacturers were also able to provide consumers with products quickly and efficiently. Businesses were able to organize their records and files effectively. Because of this, computer literacy became an important skill for corporations and organizations. The entire business landscape evolved with the use of computers in offices, factories and institutions. Over time, more changes took place in the corporate arena. Piles of folders and envelopes were converted to digital archives. Reports were presented in typewritten letters and symbols from a handwritten format. Reports, previously handwritten or typewritten, were now made through computer word processors and submitted to employers through e-mail. Office-related memos and reminders were provided electronically too.

Computers were initially used to compute complex arithmetic problems for humans. As computers advanced, more arithmetic programs were invented. The first spreadsheet was launched on the market in 1979. This was used to perform accurate complex arithmetic operations, scientific calculations, and accounting functions. Spreadsheets revolutionized the accounting system for most companies and corporations. Non-profit accounting software is a spreadsheet used in recording and processing accounting transactions for non-profit organizations. This is characterized by tabs and functions for accounting operations like payroll, trial balance, accounts receivable from fundraisers and solicitations, and accounts payable. Non-profit accounting software has all the formats and formulas found in most accounting software. This program also allows the bookkeepers or accountants to track their funds management. Moreover, non-profit accounting software serves as the organization’s accounting information system. This software allows charities to keep track of their funds and grants allocation by allowing the organization to customize the software according to their needs. Capacities of this software vary depending on the operations of the organization’s accounting. Non-profits tend to use this because it is highly adjustable. A big organization can customize this software to monitor their branches and offices in other parts of the world. And a small organization can create a system that allows them to monitor their funds and grants better. Non-profit organizations can also use this to easily create financial reports and submit them to their superiors.
