In just a few weeks the NHL’s Stanley Cup Champion will hoist Lord Stanley’s massive mug over their heads.
Until then, we must wait. But while we wait, we can always play Fantasy Sports. Typically this time of year, the Fantasy Sports’ industry takes a breather while it prepares itself for the NFL kickoff. Case in point, the internet numbers decline, and the water cooler jargon reduces itself to a few mumbles and sighs.
In light of the so-called “Fantasy Sports Off-season†we hunted for websites that don’t take a breather. Sure enough we found Fantasy Sports Stocks.com.
For those who don’t know, FantasySportsStocks.com is a virtual stock market for sports teams that allows you to buy and sell stocks in your favorite teams. Unlike other demand and supply sports sites, FantasySportsStocks.com uses its own patented brand of science to determine stock values. Each trade is independent of each other, which puts the user in full control. In a nutshell, if you pick a team and they win, then you make money. If they win on the road against a division rival coming off a 5-game winning streak, then you can practically retire.
Co-creator and founder Carlo Sicoli briefly sat with us to discuss his “off-season†workload, as he was kind enough to share his thoughts. “Well, you have to take this opportunity to make adjustments and add new features to your website. Although we’ve also seen a decline compared to August, we can’t say this time of year is a total write-off. Our MLB activity is still going strong and our NBA and NHL fans are always day trading during the playoffs as a last ditch effort to improve their portfolios.â€
When asked what changes fans can see for August 2009, Carlo shared, “we’re happy to announce we’ll be adding players to our fantasy market. Although this addition was in development for some time, we wanted to wait until we got it right. We want our fantasy users to truly feel the experience of their stock movement with every goal, assist, touchdown, or homerun. We want our users to say they made money off an Albert Pujols walk-off homerun.â€
We continued to dig, and he graciously shared a little more, “it’s matter of keeping up with the demands of fantasy players. Believe it or not, they are a demanding crowd and since you can’t always listen during the busy season, you run your reports and analyses in the off-season. Another addition we made is Side Betting. Side bets are off-market wagers between stock traders. It’s a great way to jump start your portfolio with a little friendly sports gambling on the side.â€
Fantasy Sports Stocks.com launched in 2006 and has already had a few facelifts. If one thing is for certain with these guys, they like change and giving their clients bang for their buck. Fantasy Sports Stocks.com is a modest $19.99 for a lifetime membership, which allows you to play NHL, NBA, NFL, and MLB fantasy leagues. Apparently, there’s more to come.
