Friendship Is A Virtue

Friendship is a virtue, and necessary to the good of the people involved. There are different kinds of friendship: True Friendship, Pleasurable Friendship and Friendship for Utility. Utility and pleasurable friendships are incomplete. Utility is the using of a person for an advantageous reason, and when there is no more advantage the friendship stops. Pleasure is usually associated with young people because they are easily meeting and making new friends; and because they are always looking to what is pleasant at hand. As they grow, their pleasure changes and they are quick to start and finish relationships. A good friend is similar in virtue, and does good things and wishes good things to the other. Both are equally good and pleasurable to each other, making the friendship enduring. A good friend is similar to the other because of the trust involved and expected. Friendship is important for people to share their wealth with and to have as a refuge in times of need. The old need to be cared for and always two heads are better than one. Friends do not need justice, but to be just does not resemble friendship. Friendship holds neighborhoods together, and makes families tight in all circumstances. In friendships of pleasure and utility there is someone or both people being used, but the common good true friends have for one another is lovable. This common, or reciprocated goodwill combined with the mutual knowing of the goodwill and wishing good things to the other is the finest love anyone can find.
