The Challenges of Copyright in the Information Age – Reverse Plagiarism Accusations

Perhaps, the ultimate insult for an online author or writer is to have someone who steals your work, and places it on the Internet under their own name and then to claim that you stole it from them. Now to add insult to injury they’ve screwed you over twice, but what can you do when it’s your word against them, so what can you do – and how can you prove your article, or writing pre-dates theirs? Well, perhaps you can, but it will take a bit of work, and then you realize that your time is worth more than that, and chock it off to the wild west of the new online social networking explosion. As an online article writer with now “more than two-articles online” – I find myself in conflict online with content thieves and their brazen actions. Further, I am troubled by the concept that one individual’s creativity somehow automatically belongs to any cretin who borrows it for their blog without regard, even if that thief’s intentions are to share it with the rest of the world, which was indeed my original intention. But that still does not make it okay. The worst part about all this is when the plagiarist denies it, then claims the work was his/hers and threatens the author, in this case me – how can one win?It appears these types of challenges will continue far into the future, and there needs to be an easier way to deal with it all. A way to ensure that justice will be served and the writer of the original piece is given credit for the work, whether the information is re-posted to a blog, or put online somewhere. From my observations, and watching such events unfold has truly opened my eyes to the changes afoot, and the bold attitude of this up-and-coming generation. Copyright Laws and enforcement will be a difficult prospect as the Internet Grows. We are moving into a new way of doing things as the social online networks modify human behavior. This changes the challenges with copyright violations forever. It will become nearly impossible to protect your work, and I might add your work may become irrelevant in the deluge of content, much of which will have been produced by who knows? And those who have created online content may never be recognized. And even after their selfless gift of information to the world, they may never realize their work has been removed and posted elsewhere, worse someday that somebody could be you. Okay so, I hope you will please consider all this and think on it because this trend growing exponentially, and it’s become a serious copyright issues online.
