A travel mug can be much more than some poor quality piece of plastic rotting in the cupboard. This might not be the most important choice of your existence, but there is a appropriate way to go about looking for a travel mug! Put up with me and you may be on your route to finding a coffee travel mug which will last you a lifetime. There are lots of cut-rate mugs out there. If you simply purchase whatever from your local grocery store you may well have a new item for the waste can rather than a precious coffee mug. If you follow my counsel you won’t get it wrong during your search for the right travel mug. This guide is written to give a brief outline of the things to reflect on when shopping for a travel mug.
Think about where you will make use of your travel mug. Will you be carrying it around at work, or using it in your car? If you will be using your mug at work, you possibly will want to reflect on purchasing a mug with a nice wide foot, so you don’t thump it over on your desk. Will you be guzzling coffee while whizzing down the freeway at 70+ mph? Then think about your car’s cup holder. Cup holders are the disgrace of many an automobile. Some can hold anything you chuck at them, while others can only take a 12 oz beverage can. Make sure your cup holder can hold whatever mug you choose, particularly if it has a handle. I know I personally like to have a handle on my travel mug, but some car cup holders will not fit a mug that possesses a handle positioned too low. If you insist on buying a travel coffee mug with a handle then you can always look for a mug with a handle placed high on the mug. Now you may well want to think about how much coffee you will be drinking between refills. Do you plan on putting your bladder through a daily marathon, or are you a sipping kind of person? One thing to reflect on is the larger the mug, the heavier it gets. Some like it hot! Do you like your coffee boiling, or luke warm and nauseating? If you are a sluggish coffee drinker you will unquestionably want a double insulated travel coffee mug. The more barrel shaped the mug the less surface area there is to insulate. Squatty mugs that are insulated, or double walled usually will keep coffee hot for longer than a tall mug. With that said, you must keep in mind the cup holder issue. Most fat mugs will not fit in many car’s cup holders. Now reflect on what your mug is constructed of? Is stainless steel your thing, or do you favor plastic? Myself, I choose stainless and ceramic mugs with a plastic lid. Look for double insulated stainless mugs that are sturdy and well put together. They are enormously durable and eye-catching. If you purchase a high quality stainless steel and ceramic mug it can last you for years. Always reflect on the lid! Not all lids are produced equal. When traveling with hot coffee you would like it to reside in your mug and off your lap. A lid with a firm fitting slider is the way to go. Avoid mugs with loose sliders or those cut-rate spinning closures. Those kind will leak coffee like a sieve. Stick with a tight fitting slip slider, or some other tight stopper. One more thing to point out is not all lids fasten to mugs in the same way. The most general way that travel mug lids secure to the mug is a plastic insert with rubber gaskets. The gaskets help hold the lid on and prevent coffee from splashing out. These are by far not the most secure lids. They can and will come off if you thump them over too hard. The least likely to come off lids are screw on. They still require some sort of gasket to thwart leaks, but the lid itself will stay put. If you really want a stainless steel mug with a screw lid you will have to really seek for one. I’ve only seen one yet. To conclude, you must take appropriate care of your travel mug if you want it to last. I’ve never seen a double walled travel mug that can be washed in a dishwasher. Use the old elbow grease and clean that mug by hand, and don’t immerse it in water. Double insulated mugs consist of an inner and outer shell that is glued together with a top ring. If you immerse it long enough water will ooze into the inner walls and damage your mug. I wish this piece has made it easier for you with your travel coffee mug endeavors.
