Baby Boomer Women Blazing New Trails

We’ve heard a lot about our three Baby Boomer presidents, but what about the Baby Boomer women?Women like Hillary Clinton, who is now our Secretary of State. Or Sharon Stone, who is as hot as ever. Or Sally Ride-the first woman in space, who is now the founder and president of a company that creates science and other programs for elementary and middle school students. All of them are Baby Boomers, baby. But our generation of women are doing a lot of other things, too.You may not have heard of Rosie Swale Pope, for example. But on her 57th birthday in 2003, Swale Pope began a jog to raise awareness about prostate cancer after the death of her husband, Clive. It was a very long jog. In fact, she jogged around the world, taking four years of her life to do it.Oh, and let’s not forget other famous examples of Baby Boomer Women’s Power like Condoleezza Rice, Meryl Streep, and Oprah Winfrey.Takes your breath away, doesn’t it? But the fact is that we Baby Boomer women are simply carrying on a tradition of women who came into their true power during their second lives.Eleanor Roosevelt didn’t really find herself or her voice until her mid to late 40s. The best-selling author of all time, Agatha Christie, didn’t write her first novel until she was 46!However, Baby Boomer women have made one big change in that tradition-we’ve made it more of the rule, not the exception. Cosmetics companies are hiring women like Sharon Stone and Christie Brinkley because mature women buy roughly 50% of the cosmetics in this country. No one was surprised when Hillary Clinton came close to being the first female nominee for president in our country’s history. And we’re not really hearing about all that many “firsts” for women anymore, are we? That’s because our generation, the Baby Boom generation, has been there and done that many times over!So now that we Baby Boomer women are retiring into our second lives in droves, what do we want to do with those years? Do we want to find the power we stifled to do our old jobs and take care of our families, or do we want to continue exercising the energy and authority that we’ve been enjoying, but do something entirely different?Because the fact is, we can do pretty much anything we want. Because while we Boomers have been making history, medical science has pretty much been doing the same. Get ready to hear “70 is the new 50,” friends, because that’s where we’re headed in our lifetimes! So before you just keep on doing the same things you’ve always done, stop for awhile and consider your options. Do you want to start a new business, pursue your passion for race cars, or take up watercolor painting? You can create a second life that lets you do all of these things. All it takes is a little planning and a willingness to pursue your dreams and make them real. That’s what I’ve been doing in my second life, and it would be my pleasure to show you how to join me. After all, we Baby Boomer women still have a lot to share and learn from each other!
