Anniversaries – Are Gifts Necessary

They usually say that anniversary presents are not necessary anymore for couples who have been together for almost half of their lives. I beg to differ. This is, for me, unreasonable. Couples may say that presents don’t matter as long as they are together. But no matter how they say it’s not important, they still think about it. Women still wonder what they will get and they still look around for something to give their better half. And men may still realize that’s it’s the day, on the day itself and would still think of something to give their partners as an anniversary gift. So if you will ask me if it is necessary to give gifts on anniversaries, you bet I’ll say “yes.”Anniversaries are days that you have to be thankful for. Why? Think of the divorce rate all over the world. You two are still lucky for being able to stick together and be still in love with each other. A year has passed and you two were able to keep your promises intact. You two survived another year together. This is the time to thank your better half for staying by your side when you were grumpy, sick and down. This is your chance to show her your gratitude for believing in your crazy ideas and celebrating with you whenever you win your battles. Think it through. Who said you don’t need presents anymore on anniversaries? Not finding the necessity of this simple yet powerful gesture is one reason why marriages or relationships for that matter weaken. Think of the word consistency. When you were still courting her, you give her things, big or small, cheap or expensive almost everyday. Now that you have gotten her devote her life to you and to you alone, you will stop giving her presents? I don’t think that is a smart move. Believe it or not, being consistent in your ways of showing her you love her continuously strengthens the foundation of your love for each other. One thing that you need to remember is that, women, will always remember anniversaries as a very important event in their lives. No matter how old they are. Even if she tells you that it’s alright to not give her anything at all, she is still wishing and hoping that you will give her something special. And she also, and never fails to, thinks of giving you something back on that day as well. That’s why she keeps on cooking your favorite dish on your anniversary. That’s why she goes to her hair stylist and buys a new dress on that day. She prepares for it and you should do the same thing. The thing here is, it doesn’t need to be expensive or grand. If you have the money, then give her a car. That would be nice! As long as you can afford it – that is. It can be something simple. A book, a scarf, a card with a charms bracelet or even a poem you yourself composed. The point here is you remembered and you prepared something for her. Women are actually easy to please. They love presents big or small. They are actually after the idea that you did not forget. That’s the most important thing about it.So, the next time you think twice about getting an anniversary present for your lovely woman, give yourself a kick in the butt! Are you crazy? Get yourself together and go to the nearest gift shop! Buy her something special. You are too busy? Go on line. What’s eBay for? Remember: it does not have to be expensive. It’s the thought that counts.

Baby Boomer Women Blazing New Trails

We’ve heard a lot about our three Baby Boomer presidents, but what about the Baby Boomer women?Women like Hillary Clinton, who is now our Secretary of State. Or Sharon Stone, who is as hot as ever. Or Sally Ride-the first woman in space, who is now the founder and president of a company that creates science and other programs for elementary and middle school students. All of them are Baby Boomers, baby. But our generation of women are doing a lot of other things, too.You may not have heard of Rosie Swale Pope, for example. But on her 57th birthday in 2003, Swale Pope began a jog to raise awareness about prostate cancer after the death of her husband, Clive. It was a very long jog. In fact, she jogged around the world, taking four years of her life to do it.Oh, and let’s not forget other famous examples of Baby Boomer Women’s Power like Condoleezza Rice, Meryl Streep, and Oprah Winfrey.Takes your breath away, doesn’t it? But the fact is that we Baby Boomer women are simply carrying on a tradition of women who came into their true power during their second lives.Eleanor Roosevelt didn’t really find herself or her voice until her mid to late 40s. The best-selling author of all time, Agatha Christie, didn’t write her first novel until she was 46!However, Baby Boomer women have made one big change in that tradition-we’ve made it more of the rule, not the exception. Cosmetics companies are hiring women like Sharon Stone and Christie Brinkley because mature women buy roughly 50% of the cosmetics in this country. No one was surprised when Hillary Clinton came close to being the first female nominee for president in our country’s history. And we’re not really hearing about all that many “firsts” for women anymore, are we? That’s because our generation, the Baby Boom generation, has been there and done that many times over!So now that we Baby Boomer women are retiring into our second lives in droves, what do we want to do with those years? Do we want to find the power we stifled to do our old jobs and take care of our families, or do we want to continue exercising the energy and authority that we’ve been enjoying, but do something entirely different?Because the fact is, we can do pretty much anything we want. Because while we Boomers have been making history, medical science has pretty much been doing the same. Get ready to hear “70 is the new 50,” friends, because that’s where we’re headed in our lifetimes! So before you just keep on doing the same things you’ve always done, stop for awhile and consider your options. Do you want to start a new business, pursue your passion for race cars, or take up watercolor painting? You can create a second life that lets you do all of these things. All it takes is a little planning and a willingness to pursue your dreams and make them real. That’s what I’ve been doing in my second life, and it would be my pleasure to show you how to join me. After all, we Baby Boomer women still have a lot to share and learn from each other!

That’s right – AM gives you all the tools you need to get your foot in the animation door!

Animation Mentor is a for-profit university online animation school that teaches students character animation skills. Located in Emeryville, California, the school offers an 18-month program in which students are taught by “mentors,” or experienced animators who are professionals working in the animation industry.

The school was founded in 2005 by three working animators: Bobby Beck, who is the CEO and president of the school, Shawn Kelly, who is a working animator at Industrial Light & Magic, and Carlos Baena, who is a working animator at Pixar Animation Studios.

By graduation, every student works in a production-style environment where mentors stand in for directors and assignments stand in for film or game shots. You’ll learn how to accept guidance and criticism, meet deadlines and to budget and schedule your time to succeed in the working world. At the end of the 18-month program, you’ll walk away with a professional demo reel that you can use as your resume. Plus, AM coaches graduates on interviews and connects them to job opportunities with major recruiters, video game companies, and film studios.

The school operates 24/7 and offers a reasonable tuition for the 18th-month program: $17, 425. The school is certified by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education. Graduates receive a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Character Animation.

Besides getting constant guidance from experienced animators, the program offers live question and answer sessions and audio-visual critiques of assignments. Since the faculty are working professionals experienced in the animation field, they work hard to have career placement support for all students. Alumni enjoy a career service website that features network events and a web reel that shows creative work by students.

The school has won several awards, including the 2006 Best Practices in Programming Award Gold Level, 21st Century Distance Learning Award from the U.S. Distance Learning Association, and was an honoree at the 10th Annual Webby Awards. The school also won the 2008 PRSA Bronze Anvil Award for its white paper “Behind the Characters: Job Satisfaction, Career Outlook, and Salary Survey Report” and was again named an official honoree at the 13th Annual Webby Awards. In 2008, Sony Picture Imageworks awarded its top scholarship to student Luis Rodrigo Huerta to earn a Master’s Degree at Texas A&M and participate in online animation courses at Animation Mentor.

Baby and Toddler – Discipline vs Punishment

It is your job as a parent to teach your child the difference between acceptable and unacceptable behavior. Getting your child to behave the way you would like them to behave is not as hard as you think. Learning takes time and several weeks will go by when working on good behavior before you see a change. It will be hard, but try not to get frustrated if you don’t see results right away.Discipline and punishment are not the same thing. Discipline is a whole system of teaching based on a good relationship, praise and instruction for the child to encourage good behavior. Punishment is negative. It is an unpleasant consequence for doing or not doing something. Effective discipline should take place all the time. Not just when children misbehave. Children will probably change their behavior when they feel encouraged and valued, not shamed and humiliated. When children feel good about themselves and cherish the relationship with their parents, they are more likely to listen and behave well. The first thing to avoid is power struggles. Instead, address only those issues that truly are important to you. When you offer choices you can set limits and still allow your child some independence. Try to make a game out of good behavior. The child may be more likely to do what you want if you make it fun. Parents should also try to plan ahead. If you know that certain things will set them off, remind them before hand what behavior is acceptable and what the consequences will be if they do not follow proper behavior. Always praise good behavior. Praise them whenever your child remembers to follow the rules.Parents cannot avoid trouble all the time. Your child will test your limits. It is a way for your child to find out if they can really trust you. They need to find out if you will really do what you said you would do if they did not listen. When your child sees the natural consequences of their actions, they experience the direct results of their choices. When you use this method, do not rescue them and resist the urge to lecture. Your child will learn best if they learn by themselves and therefore cannot blame you for the consequences.Natural consequences work best but they are not always logical. For example, if your child does not pick up the toys, the natural consequence is that they may be in the way. Your child may not care as much as you do in this. This is when you need to step in. You need to make your own consequence up. For example say that if they don’t pick up the toys then you will. Then explain that they will not be able to play with them for the rest of the day. And be prepared to do this immediately. Let them know that you are serious and follow through.Sometimes it is not always easy to think of logical consequences, especially in the heat of the moment. You can try withholding privileges. Never take away anything they truly need like a meal. Think of something they really like and follow through. Then there are time-outs. This should be used as a last resort. They are good if you need to break the action such as hitting a sibling. Choose a good time-out spot that is boring with no distractions. A good rule of thumb is your child time in time-out can equal their age. If your child does not go there willingly then carry them there. If they do not stay then stand behind them and gently but firmly hold them by the shoulders or hold them in your lap and explain to them that they are having a time-out. Once they are sitting quietly set the timer, if they start fussing then restart the timer. When the time is up, help them find a positive activity. If you need to discuss the behavior wait a few minutes before doing so.

Anger Management and Forgiveness

Deciding if you should forgive or not may be easier after reviewing exactly what forgives is – and what it is not.

·Forgiving does not mean that you forget the offense You may never forget (and probably shouldn’t) what happened to you, but after forgiveness you can remember it without the emotional pain connected to it.
·Forgiving does not mean that you are saying what they did was O.K. Quite the opposite. We can forgive but still see what happened to you as horrific or unjust.
·You don’t need to even tell people that you forgive them; the forgiveness occurs in your heart – not in conversation with them, although in some circumstances you may want to have a dialogue about it It often backfires if you go up to someone (especially a relative) and say -œI forgive you.- This occurs because the offending person often doesn’t see himself or herself as the problem. Better to do the forgiveness in your own mind and heart. One exception to this is if you are the victim of a violent crime. Some studies show that it helps your healing if you forgive your assailant face to face.
·Forgiving doesn’t mean you will automatically trust them again Forgiveness and trust are two separate issues. Even after forgiveness, it may take a long time to re-build trust, if ever. To instantly trust someone again after they have violated you in some way is not a sign of good mental health or strong self-esteem.
·Forgiving doesn’t necessary mean you like or love the offender, or even want to be in future relationship with them Absence of angry feelings doesn’t necessarily create warm, positive, or loving feelings in you for the offender-at best forgiving may bring you up to neutral in your feelings toward them. It I possible to say to yourself, for instance, -œOK. I forgive her but I don’ want to have anything further to do with her-ever.-
·You don’t need to forgive all at once. This is a concept that especially applies to forgiving an unfaithful partner. Dr. Abrams-Spring suggests that to start maybe you can only forgive 10%-”just open the door-”and then see how your unfaithful partner behaves. After a period of time, you might want to open the door a little wider and forgive maybe another 20%, and so on.
One way to learn skills in forgiveness is to take an anger management class from a qualified provider. For more information about Anger Management classes and programs, contact AJ Novick Group, www.ajnovickgroup.com
