Ways to Improve Employee Motivation

Employee Motivation Improves ProductivityThe most proven method for improving productivity continues to be employee motivation. The equation amounts to this: When it comes to your staff, what’s on their mind? Throughout the day, they will either choose to strive for excellence, or settle for mediocrity. The resulting thoughts will have either a productive or counter-productive impact on their performance, team motivation, and your organization’s bottom line.Corporations across the globe are all trying to figure out the best way to enhance employee motivation. Throughout the ages, the challenge to keep workers motivated has been a top priority. Myriad techniques have been deployed from recognition plaques to bonus trips in hopes of inspiring and motivating, however, in order to really understand employee motivation we must get to the root of human psychology.Employee motivation is really no different from any other type of psychological motivation. When a person is at work, they essentially are looking to meet the same needs as any other time in life. So, in order to understand employee motivation, we need to understanding the basis of what people really want. A technique to accomplish gaining this understanding is to follow the need back by continually asking why. Using this technique, we can get to the origin of any issue, and typically the answer is the same. At the root of everything we do, is the powerful drive to feel better.Abraham Maslow (April 1, 1908 – June 8, 1970), one of the most prolific historical psychologists, gave us Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Understanding this hierarchy can be useful in strategy planning for employee motivation programs, but regardless of the operating level, the motivation is still to feel better. Feeling better is why we work, build friendships, eat, sleep, get married, have children, go on vacation, strive to succeed. Everything we do is designed to help make us feel better. Although this concept may seem simplistic, it is at the heart of motivation, and key to understanding how to develop employee motivation programs.Employee motivation programs should be designed from the top down with emphasis on four core area’s that address the most critical segments of this human psychological need to feel better.1. Feeling like a part of the team. This goes directly to the heart of feeling better. When we feel like we are a part of something bigger than us, it makes us feel better. Society and religion are all based upon this principle. When we are working with others who all have similar goals it has the powerful effect of making us feel as though we are doing the right thing. When people join organizations, or even when they think about God, they become relieved when they know they are part of something much greater than themselves. Any employee motivation program should incorporate basic principles designed to help employees feel like they are part of a team.2. Incentives. Dangling the proverbial carrot works well in stimulating short term employee motivation. The quarterly contest, complete with prizes, annual trip, etc. all work to help people along the daily grind toward achieving predetermined goals. These activities work well when used in conjunction with daily meetings, motivational quotes, inspirational speakers and creating a general constructive atmosphere.3. Creating an even playing field. Creating a top down approach allows an organization to even the playing field so that different departments within the company aren’t providing more attractive incentives than another. Many companies today are rewarding sales teams, and overlooking incentive based programs in other areas of the company. This practice can set up resentment, and have an undesirable impact on the organization as a whole. If incentive programs are adopted company wide, all employees will become inspired, and share in the appreciation that those leading the company are thinking of everyone, and not just the revenue generating side of the business.4. Family participation. Often times, company leaders forget that most people place a higher value on family then they do being an employee. By bringing family involvement into the workplace, organizations can help solidify employee motivation by recognizing the values of the employee. Scheduled family day’s, organized family functions, and other specific family recognition activities all work toward helping to inspire and motivate employees.Structured policies that take into consideration these four principles will go a long way toward increasing employee motivation, and creating an atmosphere that enables personal and career oriented growth.More information – http://quotes-motivational.com/

Who Invented Dell Computers

The invention and the history of the Dell computer is quite interesting. First of all, it was in 1984 when Michael Dell, a student at the University of Texas at Austin, created the company PC’s Limited. He only had a starting capital of $1,000. So what he did was he started working out of his dorm room to build personal computers made from stock components. These computers were to be IBM compatible because that was the standard at that time. If a computer were to function with various pieces of hardware, it needed to be IMB compatible since hardware and software programs were being designed to be IBM compatible. It is when Michael Dell figured that selling computers directly to customers to determine customer need that he dropped out of college. His family then extended him the $300,000 in expansion capital that he needed to make his business take off.A successIt was in 1985 that the Turbo PC was developed and it sold for less than $800. It contained an Intel 8088 processor that ran at 8 MHz, which is considerably slower than the computers that we use today. Computers today are running in gigahertz, which are hundreds and even thousands of times faster than the 8 MHz processor that Michael Dell was installing in his computers at the time. But the truth is that this was the best that could be done in 1985. The technology was developing. But there was an aspect of PC’s Limited that was unique from the rest and continues to be this way today. It is the fact that customers could custom order their computers rather than buy a computer that was already assembled. This allowed individuals to receive computers at lower prices than what they could get with their competitors. This definitely worked because PC’s Limited grossed $73 million in its first year of trading. The beginning of DellIt was in 1988 that PC’s Limited became Dell. Prior to that, the company already had 11 international operations occurring, so the company was quite large. There were on site services set up to compensate for the lack of businesses acting as service centers for Dell computers. It was in 1990 that Dell attempted to sell through club houses, but had very little success with this. So it is then that Dell went right back to its direct to customer sales. In 1996, Dell started selling computers on its website. An individual could go onto the website and custom design their computer so that it would be built to their specifications. From there, it would be shipped to the customer’s home. Financing was made available so that individuals would be able to acquire their computers easily. In 1999, Dell became the largest personal computer seller when they took over Compaq computers. Their revenue topped $25 billion in 2002. Also in 2002, Dell started selling televisions and other electronic items. They now have Dell brand printers, LCD TVs, and much more. Because of the expansion beyond computers, Dell was changed to Dell Inc. in 2003.It is amazing that this billion dollar company started in a dorm room with $1000 in starting capital. And Michael Dell has always stood by the principles of letting individuals have the capability to design their own machine. Although there are Dell computers now sold in various retail outlets, a person can still go to the website and design the machine of their dreams. And Dell also offers a lot of assistance for individuals needing help with their computers. They offer on-site services and so much more for the computer user so that they can have the best experience possible.

Wasabi Chocolate Praline

Sushis have almost already become part of our daily food list when eating out or even shopping in the mall. Only 25 years ago they were nowhere to be seen and unheard of, except in Japan of course where they come from.

Now we can find them everywhere at an affordable price as well. People have got used to the taste of the wonderful Japanese cuisine and its condiments.

This brings us to the subject of this article which is Wasabi, also known as the “Japanese horseradish”. The Japanese love this condiment and use it extensively with their meal almost in the same way the French use their mustard, except that wasabi is about 10 time stronger than the strongest of the French mustard.

On another subject we also have, in the last few years, been getting used to accommodate chocolate with many kind of condiments or spices like cinnamon, chilly, pepper, nutmeg, ginger and so on.

This is why I have tried to venture a little further and add some wasabi to my favourite chocolate ganache filling. The result was quite interesting, the wasabi having such strong taste I was not ready to oppose it with another strong taste like the bitter dark chocolate taste, this is why  in my recipe I have chosen to use white chocolate to let wasabi flavour come on top nicely.

No need to say that if you don’t like wasabi, better stay away from it, this is the kind of praline we love or hate, there cannot be any compromise.

For this recipe we can use wasabi paste or if you cannot find it you also can use wasabi powder and make the paste yourself. In this case mix 14g of wasabi powder with 36g of drinking water at room temperature. Mix nicely until smooth with a spoon or a spatula and, here you have your fresh 50g of wasabi paste.

Next prepare some white chocolate shells; I normally use half sphere shape polycarbonate moulds, that I finger spread with a little melted and tempered cacao butter, coloured with some green PCB colour powder, to give that kind of marble effect. Keep the shells in the moulds and in a cool place.

Next prepare the wasabi chocolate ganache filling with:

Fresh cream: 100g
Glucose: 33g
Wasabi paste: 50g
Butter: 50g
White chocolate couverture: 233g

As for a normal ganache boil the fresh cream and the glucose together. Mix in the wasabi paste. Add the chopped butter and mix until melted with a spoon or spatula (not a whisk). Then pour onto the finely chopped white couverture and let rest 2 or 3 minutes before mixing very slowly, until completely smooth, still with a spatula in order to stop any air coming into the filling.

Let the filling cool down to less than 28ºC (82°F) before filling the moulds.
When the filling has cooled down, fill the chocolate shell (still in the moulds) by spreading the filling over the plane surface of the moulds with a wide plastic scraper.

Otherwise you can also fill each shell one by one with the help of a piping bag.
Scrap out any excess of filling with the scraper and place the moulds in a tempered dry fridge or cooler, at around 10°C (50°F) temperature to let the filling set.

When the filling has completely set, spread the top of the moulds with some tempered white chocolate couverture to close each praline nicely scraping away any excess of couverture with the scraper.

Place again the moulds in the cooler for around 10 minutes. Then the wasabi praline should be ready to un-mould and….taste of course.

I really hope you enjoyed this Chocolate Praline recipe.

Ways to Prevent Childhood Obesity

How do we stop this epidemic of overweight and obese children? Whose fault is it that the problem exists? These are frequently asked questions. The first one should be answered but the second one should be disregarded. Looking for someone who is at fault takes attention away from the real problem; getting our children healthy.A lot of the work in this department is going to have to fall on the parents. We are responsible, and we need to remember that. That doesn’t make us the bad guy. What it really means, though, is that we need to learn some skills to help our kids.1) Get out and play ball: That’s what we did as kids. If it wasn’t a league, then a bunch of neighborhood kids would get together with whatever equipment they could muster and play. Why is that important? It’s actually well disguised exercise. Running, jumping, batting or a cool layup, it’s all aerobic exercise.2) Be a good example: This will be one of the hard parts, but many of us parents are not at our ideal weight, either. Eating a healthy diet, whether the kids can see you or not, is going to set the right example. So will finding a way to exercise. However, it’s important also to have a good attitude about it. Complaining or acting long suffering will be counterproductive. Instead, find healthy foods you like and a sport or exercise activity you can enjoy.3) Reduce stress: Kids feel stress every bit as much as we do. In fact, when we’re stressed it makes them more so. Teach them the coping mechanisms you’ve learned and they will feel a lot better.4) Set limits: Part of the problem we’re dealing with is all the technology around us. Set limits to how long they can use the computer, play video games, text message and all of that sort of inactivity. That will give them more time to do healthy things such as play.5) School lunches not cutting it? Brown bag: Instead of complaining and letting the kids eat the stuff anyway, pack them a lunch. They can help you choose the contents at the grocery store so you’re sure they’ll eat it. You may also want to write the school board in your area with your concerns. If enough parents do that, healthier choices may wind up on the menu.6) Teach nutrition: Don’t depend on the schools to do it for you. Explain to your kids about healthy eating and, just like school lunches, have them help you pick out what food to have at home. All of these suggestions will show your children that healthy eating is a lifelong thing, not something parents make their kids do. This way, we’ll end both the child obesity epidemic, we could even win the adult obesity epidemic.

What Exactly, Is A Pet Friendly Apartment

Many, if not most, apartments are very pet friendly. But they take weight and especially breed very seriously. With vicious breeds there are legal liabilities and very few will work with you. Below you will find some common questions pet owners who rent will need to know.My dog weighs over 60 pounds. Most apartments are dog and cat friendly. But, all but a very few apartments have weight and breed restrictions. Your apartment locator can save you loads of time and aggravation by taking you only where your pet will be accepted. If an apartment has a no pet policy, your wasting your time trying to convince them otherwise.I have three dogs! Most apartments will only work with 2 pets. Occasionally you will find one that will bend the rules, but it’s totally at the managers discretion. They will usually charge you a full deposit for each pet you own. It will be expensive. They told me my dog was considered a vicious breed!Vicious breeds are typically Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, Wolf Hybrids, German Shepherds, Dobermans and Chows. Mastiffs and Akitas are also considered viscious in many apartments. If its a mix and looks like a pit, they will consider it a pit. Many apartments also have restrictions on Boxers. Your apartment locator should have some places that are breed friendly. Some properties will take a German Shepherd, but not a Chow. Other properties will do a pet interview. Many apartments will not allow puppies under one year of age. No property can deny you if its a service dog, however you must prove it.Can I break up the pet deposit into installments! Many apartments will allow you to pay out your pet deposit. Usually in two or three installments. There are however, apartments that want the pet fee up front. Typically a portion of the fee is non-refundable.I have a dog and a cat!Typically deposits are around $300.00 per animal, depending on what part of the country you reside. Usually the bigger the deposit the more likely they are to make payment arrangements. Half of your deposit is usually non-refundable.What does my pet deposit cover.Basically nothing! Many people naturally assume it will cover pet damage to your apartment. This is not true. The pet deposit is basically the rent for your pet to live there. Many apartments charge a monthly pet rent in addition. Your pet deposit is on top of that. What about my aquarium! Oh….and my bird? Enjoy them …no pet fee, no weight limit, no breed restrictions.I have a Ferret, Mongoose, Lizard, Mouse, Turtle, Rabbit,Snake, or other exotic critter! Most locators rarely run across exotic breeds. In all likelihood its because nobody thinks to ask about it. Which is probably a good idea. Apartments seem to hate Ferrets for some reason. Most exotics are caged or live in an aquarium. Normally its not a problem. If you have a ten foot Boa constrictor, I assure you, they will want to know about it.Good luck in your search and for more information about apartments and the leasing process go to www.apartments911.com [http://www.apartments911.com]
